High potential and gifted education

Every student has unique strengths and ways of learning. Some may show particular talents in areas such as creativity, problem-solving, leadership, or sport.

At our school, we value and nurture each learner’s abilities from an early stage. We provide enriching lessons and activities that help all students grow, extend their learning, and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
In our classrooms, HPGE looks like purposeful teaching that stretches thinking, sparks curiosity, and supports creativity. Students are encouraged to problem-solve, collaborate, and pursue independent inquiries. Teachers use flexible grouping, open-ended tasks, and extension activities to ensure that all learners, including those with high potential, are able to thrive and achieve their personal best.
Across our school
Across our school, HPGE is about recognising and nurturing the unique strengths of every learner. At Dungog Public School, we provide opportunities for students to think deeply, explore their interests, and apply their talents in meaningful ways. Our teachers plan rich and engaging learning experiences that extend students and encourage them to take on new challenges.
Across NSW
Across New South Wales, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) supports students who show advanced ability in one or more areas, intellectual, creative, social-emotional, or physical. The NSW Department of Education is committed to ensuring every student is challenged, extended, and supported to reach their full potential through enrichment, differentiation, and talent development.
